I was late to the makeup game. I hardly wore it in high school and when I did – it was a foundation that was a few shades to dark and caked on. I could never figure out the whole eyeliner thing and my eye shadow resembled Mimi from the Drew Carey show!
Fast forward to a few years and I was overwhelmed with four young children. I didn’t have time to shower on a regular basis let alone attempt makeup. I lived with my hair in a ponytail and if makeup was attempted it was powder foundation and mascara. I felt safe with these two items because they were hard to mess up.
It wasn’t until a few years ago that makeup because something I enjoyed doing. Part of it was timing: my kids are older and I don’t have them hanging off of me (needing all of my attention). I can actually take some time for me! The other part is… I FINALLY learned how to apply makeup. As crazy as it sounds I always assumed that the only way to achieve a professional look was by going to the professionals. I was shocked to realize how easy it was to do once it was broken down step by step. Now, instead of being overwhelmed and intimidated by makeup, I see a way to enhance my features and to feel more confident.
My hope with this blog to do three things: The first is to break down makeup application to a level that makes everyone comfortable with applying makeup from the everyday basics to a night out on the town. Second, I want to help you not only learn how to apply it but to find your own personal style. Do you prefer the more natural ‘barely there’ look or are you the type that likes to go big or go home with a full face of makeup. Lastly is what products to buy. There are so many brands out there and it can be intimidating deciding what to buy. Is expensive makeup better than the stuff sold in the drug stores? Do you really need to use a primer? These are the questions I plan to answer!
I am so excited to be writing about something that has become a passion for me. I hope to help each of you come to a place where makeup can become a pleasure instead of a burden!
